It All Starts With Writing
A reflection on writing, clarity, and how ideas begin to take shape.
Many years ago, a lecturer said something that stayed with me.
“It all starts with writing.”
At the time, I thought he was talking about filmmaking.
Today, I think he was talking about life.
Looking back, I’ve noticed something strange.
Many of the things that now occupy my life existed as words long before they became reality.
LifeGate was writing before it was a business.
My website was writing before it was a website.
The apps I’m building were writing before they became software.
Even this article started as a few sentences typed into a chat.
When people talk about manifestation, they often imagine thoughts magically becoming reality.
My experience has been much less mysterious.
The things that changed my life were not the things I thought about.
They were the things I wrote down.
Writing forces an idea to leave the imagination.
It gives shape to something that previously existed only as a feeling.
The moment an idea is written, it becomes something you can question, refine, improve and eventually act upon.
Perhaps that’s why writing feels so powerful.
Not because it manifests reality.
But because it creates clarity.
And clarity has a way of becoming action.
Looking back, I realise that many of the things I am building today began in exactly the same place.
A blank page.
A passing thought.
A few words written down before they disappeared.
Maybe that’s why I still write.
Because every meaningful project in my life seems to start the same way.
With words.
